7TH ANNUAL WALK AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC

04/14/2020

Talk is Cheap Walk the Talk Annual Walk Against Domestic Violence hosted by HFG Happy Families Support Network Inc. (HFG) is cancelled.

Because of the virus, the City of Toronto has cancelled all gatherings and permits until June 30. The 7th Annual Walk Against Domestic Violence was scheduled for May 31, so we must cancel the Walk this year.

Thanks to everyone who signed on as sponsors, donated, registered as a participant or as a volunteer, please keep yourself and families safe and we look forward to seeing you at next year’s Walk.

What we are doing to help flatten the curve.

At HFG, we’ve found that with the pandemic isolating families in their homes or shelters, the need for our support services has grown even more. We’ve worked overtime to move our services online so we can continue to help women and children rebuild their lives after abuse, while ensuring safe social distancing and minimizing any resulting feelings of isolation. We’ve increased the tempo of our support group meetings to twice weekly, using a video conferencing format, and we’ve also increased the availability of our one-on-one support to women by phone and video call. We’re finding that the women in the program, and women new to HFG, are using our reconfigured services extensively. We’ll ramp up our online services further if necessary to meet demand.

Who are we? HFG is a charitable organization that provides free, ongoing support to women and children across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) who have experienced abuse.
