Welcome to Right-On with HFG Happy Families Support Network Inc. (HFG)
HFG is a not-for-profit support group that provides ongoing support to women and children who have experienced abuse
HFG is a free support group for women and children who have experienced abuse, run by women who have experienced abuse
The topic for today is – Feature 6 of the Her Story Series
The Her Story Series will feature 10 stories of resourceful women who walked/ran away from abusive relationships
There will be an introduction and excerpts from their journey then a link to their story so it can be read in its entirety
You can’t identify an abuser by the type of clothes they wear, where they live or the type of job they have
Abusers come in many different packages…rich, poor, educated, uneducated, and all sections in-between
To identify an abuser you need to really hear their words and see their actions without being blinded by who they are
Abuse doesn’t only happen when you are married…abuse sometimes starts when you’re dating…KNOW THE SIGNS
Abusers tend to be great story tellers, more fantasy that reality when talking about themselves and their past
Abusers tend to be excessively jealous & possessive, wanting you always to themselves & will isolate you from friends & family
Abusers tend to be very controlling, wanting to dictate your every move
Abusers tend to have a Jekyll & Hyde personality, one moment they are fine & the next they are super angry with no in-between
Abuse does not have to be physical, WORDS HURT TOO and leave unseen scars that are harder to heal
You have to have the courage and strength to leave your abuser. No one can do this for you. BE STRONG! You can do it!
“We became close very quickly & he’d check up on me constantly…”
“His calls would start with “where are you?”, “who are you with?”, “what are you doing?””
“Three months after we started dating he asked me to move in with him.”
“…he took me everywhere I needed to go and picked me up when I was finished.”
“In the mornings he’d also started telling me which outfit I shouldn’t wear and if I didn’t listen we’d fight…”
Even though we were now living together, he was still calling me regularly throughout the day…”
“We had to cancel our dinner as I ended up in the hospital with a broken arm.”
“…he told our friends I tripped on the stairs in my sexy shoes and broke my arm.”
“…then started showing up during the daytime, standing outside my class room.”
